Rotary African Summit

Marrakech 27-29 March 2018

The Governor Abdelilah LAHLALI handing the key of Marrakech to the President of Rotary International Mr. Ian RISELEY.

Dear Rotarian friends,

It is a pleasure for me to announce the holding of the 1st African Rotarians Summit from March 27 to March 29, 2018, in Marrakech. Our president Ian Riseley will do us the honor to preside, accompanied by Lady Juliet.

It all started with the late Sam Owori, the late RIPE and with the advent of the African zone. He had taken the initiative to meet us Rotarians from Africa in Marrakech to anticipate, discuss and act. We have reached a turning point where we must meet to know each other, discuss the situation of our continent and the role that the Rotary can and must play as an actor in civil society and to design and build a sustainable strategy and a vision of what tomorrow's African rotary will look like: a strong Rotary in terms of numbers and quality; a Rotary present in the field; and a Rotary acting and effective.

The late Sam Owori put us on the right track and left us ... Prematurely! We all regret his sudden disappearance, may God bless his soul. It is now up to us all to complete his work. And I will reproduce exactly the expression of Lady Norah, who will be our guest of honor: "Rotary must move on, and do what he had dreamed of".

In his memory, I propose to dedicate to him this Summit during which a solemn posthumous tribute will be returned to him.

At this Summit, we will discuss the economic, social and environmental aspects of the strategic directions and decide together for Rotary and for the Foundation, the vision, objectives, and strategy to achieve them according to the wishes of our President Ian.

We will have a real impact on our continent. The organization of such an event is a first in Rotary and its success must be an imperative and our priority.

This success can only be achieved by your presence and your active participation.

On the sidelines of this Summit, a forum of young African entrepreneurs will be organized. To these young business leaders, we will discover Rotary and Rotarians, with the ambition to see them one day be part of our movement.

I ask you, dear friends, to be ambassadors to your clubs to promote this Summit and invite all Rotarians to participate, especially since you will be at home and you will be there as a host of other Rotarians in the world, especially Rotary dignitaries and governors of 537 Districts.

For our President Ian and Lady Juliet who will make us the pleasure and honor of being with us in Marrakech, For our late Sam, may his soul rest in peace,
For Rotary,
For Africa,
Be at the rendez vous with history ...

Abdelilah Lahlali
Governor 2017-2018
